ComicList is the #3 Blogger for Captain America

The artwork is brilliant. Even the flashbacks seem to have their own specific touches on them to set them apart from the regular parts to the issue. It's funny, but you can see how Bucky still is Captain America on the junior scale when you watch Steve doing his thing back in the past.

Thumbnail 14 Months Ago, ComicList from ComicList says (in Captain America #45 REVIEW) This mini arc wraps up but does it really end? Captain America aka Bucky doesn’t really succeed in his mission but he does gather some intelligence that leads him into a much larger plot and story. The comic is a very good story, but the fact that the payoff is really a reveal and not much of a resolution is a bit of a downer. Still, this is a great read month in and month out.

The issue deals with two stories. In the present, Bucky is trying to stop Batroc and the man with no face from stealing whatever it is that they are stealing. The second story deals with Bucky’s past as the winter soldier when he was sent to kill the Chinese scientist and ran into the man with no face guarding the scientist. Bucky as Captain America struggles to piece everything together...

Another element to this story is a series of flashbacks to World War II. This is setting things up for the larger arc. While we don’t have the full plot and context of these flashbacks, they are interesting to remind us how Bucky interacting with Steve. It’s a good way to introduce some old as new and make use of the dead Captain America.

It’s a good issue, but not great. It’s a breather issue. It sets things up and reminds us of the current state of the new Captain America. I like the direction and I like the potential, but this isn’t an arc like the ones with Red Skull and Sharon. We’ll see if it can build momentum.

Thumbnail 17 Months Ago, Marvel Comics Headlines says (in Captain America #42 REVIEW) The long story of the Death of Captain America comes to a roaring conclusion. You’d think that this means the real Captain America returns, but he doesn’t. Instead, as has been the case since his death, the supporting cast takes this arc home in grand fashion. The artwork keeps the mood somber despite the fact that the good guys pretty much prevail. This comic shouldn’t be missed. Even if you haven’t read an issue of Cap you should pick this up.

At Skull base, Falcon and Black Widow are trying to find Sharon and are cutting their way through Skull’s minions. Zola and Skull are up to one last trick with Sharon as they hook her up to a machine. She fights back and blows up some of Zola’s work. They decide to scuttle the base.
