Daredevil #501 marks the first issue of the newest creative team, Andy Diggle and Robert Del La Torre, run on this title. I am not too familiar with Diggle's previous work but I was not very impressed with what he did on Dark Reign: The List–Daredevil one-shot. And after were Ed Brubaker and Mi...
What makes this issue work so well is that Diggle understands that when it comes to Daredevil the action really doesn't matter until the end. A truly great Daredevil story is getting to see Matt's interactions with his supporting cast in and out of the Daredevil costume as well as the strugg...

The art, by Billy Tan, is quite competent (not counting the panel where Matt looks like Beavis - or is it Butthead? - from Beavis and Butthead), but doesn't quite suit a Daredevil comic, and probably adds to this particular issue feeling just a little too much like standard superhero fare.

The background to these panels is Ben Urich seeking out the "new" armored Daredevil. Matt faked his own death about a dozen issues earlier and he is trying to convince Ben that he is not Matt Murdock. Ben repeats the test he subjected Daredevil to when he first found out who he was: "Make a blind...

Writer: Ed Brubaker The Hand council agrees to Matt's terms while Lady Bullseye and Kingpin can't believe what is happening to them and yell at Matt for what he has done. Matt has The Hand ninjas take Lady Bullseye and Kingpin outside.

So, what is the new status quo? Well, Matt Murdock has agreed to command the Hand, a multi-national murderous ninja order whose aims are about as different from his as can be. When Lady Bullseye first offered him the gig back in Daredevil #115, in a move that honestly looked downright silly t...

Among the back-up features is a neat little story by Ann Nocenti that I really enjoyed, even though it is a tad morbid, with some great David Aja art. There is also the reprint of Daredevil #191, which I will have to review separately some time, because it is perhaps my favorite issue of all tim...

Kingpin kills a bunch of Hand ninjas before being overwhelmed. We see Hand ninjas stabbing Kingpin in the back with two swords. Kingpin slumps to his knees. Kingpin mutters "Marta." Lady Bullseye then enters the room. Lady Bullseye says that Kingpin got soft. She tells Kingpin that the swords have effectively paralyzed Kingpin from the knees up. Kingpin asks "Why?" Lady Bullseye comments that the Kingpin was naïve if he thought he could walk away from everything. Lady Bullseye says that the reasons for her attack are too numerous to list. However, if Kingpin wants a specific cause then he should ask Daredevil. Lady Bullseye pulls the two swords out of Kingpin's back. Kingpin falls to the floor. Lady Bullseye and the Hand ninjas exit the scene.

Writers: Ed Brubaker Pencils: David Aja Brubaker ends Daredevil #116 with a great hook ending. I am excited to see Kingpin make his return to New York City. And I cannot wait to see what plans Brubaker has for Kingpin in this new story arc.
