MARVEL COMICS
I finally saw the little preview clip of the new animated series Wolverine and the X-Men. Wow! Talk about a sweet looking cartoon. It appears that Marvel is cramming just about every character connected to the X-Men into this series. I am definitely excited for this cartoon’s d...

A well-written X-Men book would be a change of pace from the flagship title. This book harkens back to the old X-Men days.
48 hours earlier...Eric is talking to Cyclops, Sunspot, and Moonstar. They are breaking the news to him that he is not a mutant. Hank McCoy's tests prove it. He wants to know how he got his powers.

Graymalkin has the potential to be one of the team's better members. Guggenheim has to tread a fine line between revealing enough to keep the fans interested while still keeping him a man of mystery. The past X-teams have contained mystery people. The main ones being Wolverine and Gambit. Time will tell where Graymalkin will fall on the list. Fans loved Wolverine and Gambit but were not as impressed with Madeline Pryor.

SECRET INVASION #7
ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #127
X-FACTOR #36
X-MEN LEGACY #217
Secret Invasion #7 does not excite me that much. This big event is overstayed its welcome and I am just weary of this story. It has taken too long and has delivered way too small of a pay-off.
However, the Marvel comic book that I am least looking forward to reading is New Avengers #46. The Secret tie-in issues on Mighty Avengers and New Avengers have become practically unreadable as it is patently obvious that Bendis is just killing time until Secret Invasion concludes.

DnA cranked out another fun ride with Guardians of the Galaxy #6. This issue concluded the obligatory Secret Invasion story arc. But, the good thing is that unlike many of the Secret Invasion tie-in issues, Guardians of the Galaxy #6 was actually entertaining. DnA treat the reader to equal amounts of kick-ass action and quality character work. Guardians of the Galaxy continues to be a balanced comic book.

Yup. I had to award the Sequential Methadone Award for the worst read of the week to Mighty Avengers #19.

ASTONISHING X-MEN #27
MIGHTY AVENGERS #19
ULTIMATE ORIGINS #5
UNCANNY X-MEN #503
Still, I had to go with Guardians of The Galaxy #6 as the Marvel comic book that I am most looking forward to reading this week. DnA continue to be absolute money on this title. And DnA are treating the reader to one of the better Secret Invasion tie-in stories on the market.
I have little interest in Mighty Avengers #19. This looks to be yet another boring flashback Secret Invasion tie-in issue. With Secret Invasion lumbering on with little direction or purpose, the various tie-in issues on New Avengers and Mighty Avengers are rapidly dropping in terms of quality. I see no reason for that trend to reverse itself with Mighty Avengers #19.

Titans #5
Uncanny X-Men #502
The Winner: Uncanny X-Men #502
Compounding the problem is the utter lack of originality to Winick’s story. The reader gets the feeling that we have read this story before and in a much better fashion as well.
Still, I had to give the Sequential Methadone Award of the week to Uncanny X-Men #502. Both titles were poorly written, but the fact is that Uncanny X-Men is a much larger franchise than the Titans. So, the fact that we are getting such amateurish writing on one of Marvel’s premier titles is much more shocking than the fact that DC has placed such poor writing on Titans.

ETERNALS #4
X-MEN MANIFEST DESTINY #1
Which Marvel comic book am I least looking forward to reading? As always, I am less than excited about the newest issue of Amazing Spider-Man. I am confident that Amazing Spider-Man #570 will be another unimpressive read.
I cannot say that I am all that excited to read X-Men: Manifest Destiny #1. And it is not because I do not think it will be a nicely crafted story. It is more of a case of me suffering from “event fatigue.” It feels like Messiah Complex just ended a month ago. I wish that both Marvel and DC would lay off the big events for a while and simply concentrate on delivering well crafted stories that are contained to their specific title.

Mighty Avengers #17
Bendis’ Secret Invasion tie-in issues on New Avengers and Mighty Avengers started out like a ball of fire and they were some fantastic reads. However, they have steadily declined in quality and have become more like filler stories designed to fluff up the thin Secret Invasion story and to stretch the Secret Invasion story out as long as possible. There was nothing about Mighty Avengers #17 that added anything of real substance to the Secret Invasion event or that increased my enjoyment of the main story over on Secret Invasion.

Which Marvel comic book am I most looking forward to reading? Well, this is a tough decision. We actually have a really strong selection of comic books headed our way from the House of Ideas. Astonishing X-Men #24 is sure to be a strong read. Whedon’s run on this title has been an absolute blast even with the shipping issues that have plagued this title.
However, the issue that I am most looking forward to reading would be X-Men #207. This issue is the dramatic conclusion of the fantastic Messiah Complex story arc. I have loved Messiah Complex from the very start and I am sure that the boys at Marvel have something pretty wild in store for us with the conclusion of Messiah Complex.

Which Marvel comic book am I most looking forward to reading? Man this is a tough choice. It comes down to either Astonishing X-Men #22 or Iron Fist #8. Both are fantastic reads with great artwork. It is close, but I’m going to have to go with Iron Fist #8.
One reason for picking Iron Fist is Astonishing X-Men’s irregular shipping schedule. We got the last issue of Astonishing X-Men, issue #21, on May 2, 2007. Here we are finally getting issue #22 on August 22, 2007. That is almost 4 months in between issues. That is simply too long to wait between issues and it kills a lot of the momentum the title had built as well as killing a lot of my enthusiasm about the title.
